Chapter Twelve
Miranda returned home gliding on air. She wondered what the hell had just happened. She wasnât sure she had ever felt that connected to someone in her life. It was kind of frightening, in a titillating way. Colette had given her a beautifully packaged bar of Iris Florentina bath soap. She told her itâs what she used, and why Miranda thought she smelled so delicious. She looked forward to a hot shower with her new soap. Jazzy ran from the bedroom to meet her in the kitchen.
âGood morning. Oh, I know, you missed me.â
Jazz rubbed back and forth around her calves.
âIâm taking care of you now. Donât trip me. Thatâs all I need.â
Once Jazz had eaten and was settled, Miranda put the kettle on low, so she could take her time getting her shower and changing into something comfortable, and she could be lazy the rest of the day. It was only eight thirty in the morning. She wasnât sure what to do with herself. She just wanted to continue floating on the waves of the night before.
By ten oâclock, after tea and time with her book, Miranda started to feel sleepy. She fell into a doze in her nook chair, her glasses atop her head. The ringing of her phone startled her awake. She recognized the ringtone she had set for Grace, and smiled as she answered.
âGood morning. Are you at work?â
âYes. Good morning to you. I tried to call last night, but your phone went straight to voicemail. Are you all right?â
âOh, yes. Iâm sorry, I must have had it off and didnât realize. Are you all right? I didnât even listen to my voicemails. Were you calling because you needed something?â
âNo. Not at all. I was trying to reach you to see if you wanted to meet me for lunch today at work, here in the café.â
âOh. Sure. What time? Iâm a little fuzzy. I was napping.â
âDid I wake you? If you arenât up to it, thatâs okay. My lunch is at twelve thirty. Is that enough notice for you?â
âPlenty. Iâm already showered. I just need to change and head over. See you then.â
Miranda disconnected the call and remembered she had shut her phone off when she went to Coletteâs. It made her feel like she was hiding something. In fact, she was. Only now she was becoming aware of it. Someone elseâs feelings mattered to her. Before noon, she got herself together and set out to meet Grace at the bookstore café.
